About

PLEASE NOTE: I am located in Burlington VT for lessons.

Welcome! I hold Master of Music and Bachelor of Music degrees in piano performance from Brigham Young University, and a piano performance ARCT diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music. Please read on to learn more about the services I offer.

Performing:

I perform light classical music - and other covers/styles as requested in advance - for weddings, receptions, luncheons, and corporate events. I will work with you carefully to decide on a set list that will create the perfect elegant mood for your event.

Collaborating:

I have lots of experience rehearsing and performing with instrumentalists, vocalists, choirs, and chamber groups. I would love to work with you to prepare for your upcoming performance or project.

Studio:

I teach dedicated students of all ages and levels, and am passionate about helping them develop a love for the instrument and become well-rounded musicians. Together, we will work on performance repertoire, technique, sight reading, ear training, music theory, and other musicianship skills. I work to provide ample performance opportunities, and encourage participation in festivals, performances, and/or music exams. I also offer music theory tutoring for any music student who needs extra help or wants to supplement their regular lessons.

Detailed bio:

Madeleine Montgomery holds Master of Music and Bachelor of Music degrees in piano performance from Brigham Young University, and a piano performance ARCT diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music. Her teachers have included Dr. Scott Holden, Dr. Jeffrey Shumway, Dr. Irene Peery-Fox, Linda Kundert, and Janice Waite. She loves teaching, and her students participate regularly in local festivals and Royal Conservatory exams. Madeleine is an active member of the Music Teachers National Association, and has adjudicated for Art City Academy’s Sonatina Festival. In addition to her experience as a private teacher, Madeleine worked as a graduate teaching assistant during her time at BYU, teaching undergraduate aural skills, group piano, and private lessons.

Madeleine enjoys both solo and collaborative work. She was a winner in the BYU Senior Concerto Competition in 2019, earning a performance with the BYU Philharmonic Orchestra the same year. Madeleine has also placed first in the Great Composer Series Online Bach competition, and enjoys competing in other local and state competitions.

Madeleine loves new music, and has had the opportunity to premiere the piano quintet Recreational Math by local composer Bradley Korth. She was recently the recipient of the BYU Minerva Teichert Prize for Creative Work for her performance of Kelly-Marie Murphy’s Star Burning Blue and an accompanying written piece. Madeleine’s writing on Murphy’s work will soon be published in an issue of the AWE: A Woman’s Experience journal.

As a collaborator, Madeleine has had the opportunity to work with chamber groups, vocalists, choirs, and many instrumentalists. She has also played for the BYU voice department’s language labs. Madeleine enjoys choral singing, and was a soprano in the BYU Women’s Chorus and BYU Concert Choir during her undergraduate degree. She also loves playing viola-piano duets with her husband, Hunter.
